May 3, 2022 - My first time attending the EMAT 2022 Conference and training event hosted by the Emergency Management Association of Tennessee was a success. Held at the Franklin, TN Marriott, this location worked out well for connecting emergency management personnel. This year they had record-breaking attendance numbers, with industry partners, local and state emergency managers, health professionals, and so many more attendees from various professions.

Rigaku's Support at the EMAT 2022 Conference

Although we don't typically focus on emergency management training events, this industry encompasses many disciplines that include hazmat response.  Therefore, I found the vendor base was from a variety of industries that tailor to first responders. We were the only Raman vendor who exhibited and I had a table where I was able to display product information and offer demonstrations.IMG_2381

Key Contacts at the EMAT 2022 Conference

My objective for attending was to introduce Raman as a technology and solution to this market, while also checking in with current customers.  It was good to connect with TEMA, City of Nashville, City of Chattanooga, and several TN county EMA's.

Rigaku's Portfolio of Handheld Raman Hazmat Analyzers

For the departments who are already using our original ResQ model, I showed them our newer ResQ CQL. The ResQ CQL contains the same software and library as our ResQ version, but was redesigned into a new tactical form factor. In addition, ResQ CQL has the option to add QuickDetect Mode. This integrates automated colorimetric analysis to detect non-visible amounts of a sample. This is key for identifying street-level fentanyl or precursor chemicals that can be used to create explosives.

When talking to new departments, some are familiar with Raman technology. Raman is unique in that it gives the user to scan substances through translucent packaging. This keeps the user safer because they do not need to expose themselves to something potentially dangerous. Combine that with Rigaku’s use of 1064 nm laser excitation, and users have the ability to scan dirty or impure mixtures. Which is more real-world to what the hazmat community comes across when on an emergency call.

In addition, Rigaku also has many incentives for new users including:
